Integrated Water Resources Management
Sustainability of water resources is an ongoing concern allover the globe. The adverse effects of environmental degradation, climate change and persistent pressure from the ever-growing population on water resources have collectively contributed to water scarcity.
Significant efforts are underway at various levels to address the critical challenge of water scarcity, notable are the efforts geared towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation which has several targets including achieving universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all ; improve water quality, implement integrated water resources management at all levels, protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers and lakes, expand international cooperation and capacity-building support to developing countries in water and sanitation related activities and programmes, increase water-use efficiency, support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management.
At 2ML Consulting Limited, we have reported on water scarcity as an impediment towards improved water and sanitation supply services. Sustained water supply is critical to the function of water utilities. We have now mainstreamed integrated water resources management into our performance improvement programs for water utilities. We are championing this cause amongst our clients by building their capacity on ecosystem management and restoration and, climate change. We facilitate our clients to mainstream a catchment-wide approach in their corporate/strategic planning and in cascading this approach down to operations.
